In the main necropolis of Memphis is Saqqara. It's best-known feature is the Step Pyramid, the world's oldest major stone structure. It was built in the 3rd Dynasty (around 2630 BC) and is the first known monumental structure made of stone anywhere in the world. The museum in Memphis is built around a fallen colossal limestone statue of Rhamses II. Outside is an alabaster sphinx of the New Kingdom and more statues of Rhamses II. We also visited the bent pyramid and went inside where it felt like 120 degrees farenheit. There were very few visitors that day and I enjoyed the quiet.
